The count is coming close to 2,000 followers for my FireBlogger Twitter account. Thank you to everyone that has added my updates to their queue. I said this 9 months ago and believe it more than ever today. Twitter is trumping blogs. Twitter Search reveals real sentiment, real news in real time.

"Also, the count is not as important as the quality of the visitors."
The count is important for assessing if Twitter can be considered a replacement for a blog.
Based on Mike's numbers, I'd say Twitter isn't there yet.
Thanks for the tip Mike. Very interesting a bout the big Canadian ship being staged in SoCal.
I'll work something up tomorrow. Thanks for the kind words.
PS — there are now three big planes in SoCal, a DC-10, a 747, and now the Mars.

Your insights re that would be most appreciated.
Ditto Kate and Anon. Your insights and cross-connections are more valuable than the momentary sparks from Tweeters. You fill in the blanks. Please keep it up.
Also, the count is not as important as the quality of the visitors. Quality of content draws quality visitors, and they are really the only ones worth communicating with.
Anon from yesterday. Thank you for the comment.
The most visitors I ever had in a day was 10,000 during the fires in Southern Greece a couple of years ago.
During the Basin Complex last year I was buzzing near 4,000 a day for a couple of weeks.
Depending on the event I can see 500 to 6,000 a day.
When there are no fires 150 to 400 a day surf in. Most of the traffic is from search engine referrals.
Oddly the single most referred post is the one I wrote about fire services in Dubai.
The term Twitter Follower is definitely loose as followers don't have to click anywhere to read updates. There is no way to gauge how many are actually reading them.
How do the 2000 Twitter Followers number compare to your daily page views of the blog during peak fire season?
mike — i so value this blog as is, echoing bigsurkate's comments. twitter just cant replace all i've learned here…
I like Facebook, too. So, I post a link there for my more interesting or important blog posts.
Maybe I just need to learn how to use twitter more effectively. (a good possibility).
Possible thunderstorms tonight here, so keeping a close eye on weather reports, now that the Sulphur Springs fire is being handled.
Hi Kate,
Twitter allows users to get very local on fires.
In the past I used Google Blog search for hyper-local insights.
Blog search has limitations.
Blog search engines pull info from blogs so a blog is required to add to the mix. With Twitter anyone can post info and Twitter aggregates tweets instantly.
My intention now is to cross post (large fire) info on Twitter and Blogger adding detail, photos and commentary on the blog as the fire dictates.
During the Australia wildfires last Winter I saw the future of disaster reporting via Twitter.
Blogs like yours cannot be replaced by Twitter. Thank goodness!
Twitter is proven to boost traffic immensely.
Thanks for the comment Kate
Mike, I twitter. I follow your twitter, and I follow wildlandfire's twitter, but I still don't get it.
Saw info on twitter re Ramona fire, then while dialing my brother, I checked with wildlandfire, and saw all resources called off. Thank goodness.
Maybe that is why I prefer blogs. There is follow-up, photos and other things one cannot do with twitter.
