From the morning fire report:
“Fire behavior is considered extreme. Significant fire growth is taking place on both the Motion and Moon fires. A Red Flag Warning has been issued for this incident and the entire Sacramento Valley. Fuel moistures are at record low levels with fuel beds being very receptive to ignition. Both fires are exhibiting both long range and short range spotting. Significant amount of open fireline still exists, fires are crossing control lines due to strong winds, high temperatures, single digit RH values and roll out on steep terrain.”
“The Motion fire has escaped control lines on the south, as well as continuing to move to the north/northwest. A structure threat with mandatory evacuations is in place for the Iron Mountain Road, Benson Road and Keswick area. This fire has the potential for major structure loss and large growth. The Moon fire continues to escape control lines to the south and east. The town of Ono is an immediate structure threat with evacuations in place. The Moon fire is pushing towards the south and east toward the town of Igo. Firefighting forces are working to protect structures and provide for public safety. The numerous structures in the Zogg Mine Road and Rainbow Lake resort area are also under a mandatory evacuation.”
In the Complex
“Approximately 158 fires, 112 contained with 3 active. Number of fires that have merged with adjacent fires is 43. Motion fire, 9,208 acres, 40% contained. Deer Lick fire, 12,701 acres, 90% contained, with little fire activity inside perimeter control lines. Moon fire, 20,000 acres, 40% contained. Resources are being stretched thin in all divisions.”
Elsewhere in the report;
“Due to limited resources, there are some divisions unstaffed.”
“Firefighter safety and public safety will be priorities. Structure protection will also be a priority. Due to limited resources, there are some divisions unstaffed.”
“Red Flag conditions continue to be in effect and have aided fires in escaping control lines. Without heavy aircraft and additional Type I hand crews, potential for containment will be significantly delayed. A large amount of open fireline still exists.”
